THEATRE DESTROYED
BIG BLAZE AT OTAKI [Per Press Association. — Copyright.] Wellington; This Day. A fire, which broke out at 4.15 yesterday morning, completely destroyed the Cosy Theatre at Otaki. Nothing was saved. The flames had a good hold when they were discovered, and the building, which was constructed of wood and iron, was soon an inferno. In an hour it was completely consumed. A family hotel adjoining the site of the theatre was slightly damaged, and the heat cracked some plate glass windows in shops across the street. The theatre was owned by the Dallinger estate and leased by Kendall Amusements, Ltd. . It was built in 1913 but up-to-date apparatus for the exhibition of talking pictures had been installed. It was the only moving picture theatre in town, and seated about 800 persons. Insurances are not available. The Otaki Fire Brigade, although unable to prevent the destruction of the building, in which the fire originated, prevented its extension to the adjacent buildings.
