Paparoa
Mrs Ariell presided over an attendance of 40 members at the Paparoa institute meeting. The meeting opened with a reading by Mrs Pendray, after which the minutes of the previous meeting were read' and confirmed. After ’the correspondence had been read and discussed, the two members to represent the Institute at the Whangarei half-yearly council meeting, wefe appointed. They were Mrs Ariell and Mrs S. Dodds.
The four hostesses, Mrs Pendray, Misses V. Dodds, 'M. Jenkins and R. Efford gave a bright programme, consisting of games and competitions, after which afternoon tea was served. There were ten entries in the cooking competition for plain sultana buns, Miss S. Cliff gaining first prize, Mrs Ariell secondhand Mrs W. Dodds third. The prizes were a canister and packets of tea donated by L. Calvert, and Co., tea merchants. *
Miss S. Cliff was in charge of a stall of .goods supplied by the Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League. Mejnbers were keenly interested, and a number of articles were sold.
