Harvest. A rich harvest of golf balls has been reaped from a swampy piece of ground on the Mt. Denby links. One search yielded 50 and another 30 balls. Our Library Feature. Mr Caughley’s Activity. Mr J. Caughley, Democrat candidate for the Kaipara electorate, has been busy during the past few days addressing meetings in the central portion of the Otamatea County. Addresses within the last few days have been given Ruawai, Mareretu, Taipuha, Ararua and Waiotira. Mr Caughley has been well received at each centre, and his speeches have been followed with close interest by his audiences. At each meeting the candidate has been accorded a vote of thanks. Whangarei Tourist Facilities. The Publicity, Committee of the Whangarei Borough Council recently communicated with the manager of the Tourist Department, asking for the setting up of a Government tourist and booking office in Whangarei. Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P., who agreed to make supporting representations, now advises that he has already taken this matter up with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, who is now considering the suggestion. Mr Murdoch is. hopeful that the request will be acceded to. Athletic Club. i

The Whangarei Amateur Athletic Club was to have held its opening run of the season on Wednesday, but unfavourable weather necessitated a postponement. Performers on field and trade are keen, and have been training assiduously for the opening run which will now take place next week. Events include the 100 yards, 880 yards, and hop, step and jump for men; 100 yards and mile for senior boys; 100 yards and 440 yards for junior boys; and 50 yards for senior and junior girls. Whananaki Bridge.

A conference was held at Whananaki yesterday to discuss the provision of a light, traffic bridge to connect Whananakl North and South. Twenty-five settlers were on the ground. The proposal was investigated by the district and county engineers, in conjunction with Councillors G. Martin and J. Morrison. Mr R. H. P. Ronayne was favourably impressed with the necessity of the bridge, and costs will be gone into. The total distance, which it. is proposed shall be bridged and filled, is approximately 20 chains.

Attention is drawn to an advertisement in this issue announcing a “Grand Recital of the Dance,” by Miss Pelita and 160 performers from the Northland School of Dancing. In addition to all branches of dancing, there will be Samoan songs and dances never before seen in Whangarei. This promises to be one of the outstanding shows of the year, and will take place at the Town Hall on Thursday. November 7. at 8 p.m. 793 Henry Wilson’s showing of new season’s printed cambrics, etc., is unique, and comprises all the very latest designs in “Bobby” prints, l/2£ yard; “Barbara” cambrics, 1/3 yard; and “Dormatex” imitation linens, yard. These lovely new prints have completely ousted the old-fashioned ginghams for ladies and children’s dresses. Patterns supplied on application.

Mr Cameron’s Campaign. Mr Clive Cameron. National Government candidate for the Bay of Islands, spent yesterday morning meeting the settlers in the Riponui district and the afternoon at Kaimamaku. Last night he addressed a meeting cl over twenty settlers in the Opuawhanga hall. Mr G. Martin', member for the Riding, presiding. His address was well received and after a number of questions were answered, a vote of thanks was carried unanimously.
