NO LIABILITY.—The Court of Appeal, Wellington, today delivered reserved judgment in the action brought by Constable E. E. Stewart, of Auckland, against E. G. Bridgens, of Auckland, for injuries, sustained while he was attempting to arrest a man who stble Bridgen’s car at Auckland in September, 1933. The court, which heard argument on the question of liability on September 19, by a majority of four to one held that the constable could not succeed. THE McArthur CASE.— The allegation that he induced people to advance money to the Investment Executive Trust Co., of New Zealand by means of a false prospectus which had been issued in New Zealand in 1933 was made against J. W. SMcArthur in the Police Court at Sydney today. Mr Wynder, K.C., for McArthur, said it may be necessary to ask for an adjournment for the. purpose of obtaining certain documents from New Zealand. Detective Robinson, of New Zealand, said he had been recently instructed to arrest McArthur, and a warrant was immediately taken out. He had executed this warrant today. The case is proceeding. LOSSES THROUGH SANCTIONS.— The Prime Minister, Mr Baldwin, questioned in the House of Commons regarding compensation for industries affected by the imposition of economic sanctions against Haly, replied that it was impossible to foretell the precise effect that the sanctions imposed might have on particular industries. The question of mutual aid, to counteract any losses which might fall upon such industries was a matter for consideration by the League of Nations. The Government naturally would endeavour to secure, in any such consideration, that possible losses _ to British trade and industries be 'given their full weight. .
