MAUNGATAPERE

The newly-formed Maungatapere branch of the Hospital Comforts Club, signalised its advent on Wednesday evening, when quite the largest gathering seen for a long time enjoyed a ( delightful and well-organised; entertainment, for which the ladies who undertook the work deserve hearty congratulations. During the evening Mrs'E. H. Sloane introduced Mrs A. D. Jack, who. described the> aims and objects of the club, and gave a brief resume of what had been accomplished during the past five years. Several county, branches had been formed this year wdth gratifying results, and Mrs Jack extended congratulations and -thanks to all who assisted and supported the good work. Vocal items were contributed by j Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Blanshard and Miiss McKay. A humorous sketch porI frayed-by Misses Molly Sloane Margery Bourke followed. The comedy, “Waiting for the Bus,” was a main feature of the entertainment, and the various performers carried out tfie parts in a manner that delighted the large audience. Those who took part were Mesdames W.' E. 1 Maugham and N. M. Matthews, and Misses Linton, E. Pringle, Mary Stevens, Barbara Newton, Margaret Stevens, Audrey Higham, Joy Robison, Roha Armstrong, Marjory Walker and Eileen Mason. Each of the performers was the recipient of a bouquet. A competition' was won by Mr Kearney. After supper, the table decorations : for which were carried ! out by Mrs Dawson, dancing was enjoyed.
