WRESTLING TOURNAMENT.

- A wrestling tournament, held at Herekino on October 21, in aid of Miss Mercia Urlich’s candidature for the Kaitaia Queen Carfiival, was well attended, James- Hall- being well filled. Some lively contests were witnessed, and very much enjoyed by the spectators. The programme was arranged by tne Broadwood Amateur Wrestling Club. The referee was Mr Dunning, Mr Mooney was the announcer, and Constable Taylor, of Kaitaia,,. represented the police. ■ R, Holland, 8.6, drew with W. Holland, 9.4, botlFof Broadwood. W. Holland took; a fall' with.' a body press in the.second round,’ arid R. Holland equalised with the same fall in the fast round. '• - R. Hornell, 9.6, drew with N. Ducker, 9.10. Ducker .took a fall in the first round with a body press. Hornell scored a fall.'.with the same hold in the second round. ‘ Points oyer the last found were even. '

-T. Hollows, 12.5, of Broadwood, drew ■vyfith B. Ling, 12.2, of' Broadwood, there being no falls registered'. This was a bout in which both lads showed a fair knowledge of modern wrestling holds: Points were even in rounds one and three, but Ling was ■ well ahead in round two, and was imlucky in not gaining the decision. J. Hornell, 11.4, of Broadwood, defeated H. , McLeod, 11.2, of Herekino, by a fall with a body press in the last round. McLeod was well ahead on points, when Hornell secured a lucky fall.

W. Reid) 12.10, drew with D. Newman, 11.10, both of Broadwood, no falls being registered. A. Anderson, 10.5, Broadwood, defeated J. McMullian, lightweight amateur champion of North Auckland, on points. This was a very fine bout, in fact the best of the evening. McMullian was not wrestling in his proper class, the contest being a catch-weight. G. Frear, 13.6, defeated Steve Urlich, 13.5, both of Kaitaia, by one fall, with a body press in the second round. Frear, a well-known boxer, made his debut in the wrestling ring, but could not forget his boxing stance, much to the amusement of the spectators. D. Urlich, 11.7, Kaitaia, drew with D. Hawkin, 11.6, of Broadwood, no falls being registered. Urlich made a fine showing against an experienced opponent. F. Lunjevich, 10.0, of Herekino, defeated G. Lane, of Broadwood, 10.5, by one fall in the last round, with a body press. This was also an exciting bout, and a fitting climax to an enjoyable night.
