THE GAME OF BOWLS
The game of bowls is played by men Of every class and clime, Who love to play a social game, And have a pleasant time. There is a charm about the game None but a bowler knows, Of every bowler he’s a friend, No matter where ho goes. Strangers are ever welcome If on the green they stray, And always get a pair of bowls If they’re disposed to play. There are no toff distinctions here, No party, class or clan, No rigid rules of etiquette A pleasant, game to ban. You take your bowls on to the green. And toss to lay the mat, And may be classed to play the game With Sandy, Tom or Pat. The winner throws the kitty up, And follows with a bowl, Trying to hug the kitty close ,With all his heart and soul, / Sometimes he meets with great success But often he will miss, When another vet, with youthful vim, Will greet her with a kiss. This invokes a hearty clap, And tempts another man. Who tries to trail the kitty, And hold her if he can. Another with more zeal than skill ■ Will take a desperate throw To try to steal the kitty, But in the ditch may go. Another fails to take’ the green, Another is too short. ’Tis thus the game goes rolling on While all enjoy the sport., ■ The winners and the losers all Shake hands to close the game, The losers going home convinced The green was most to blame. Thus ev’ry day the game proceeds .With many an up and down, While all in harmony unite In country and in town. The professor and the working man, The clerk and merchant, too, AH come together on the green, As sportsmen all should do. Q, what a glorious world ’twould be If all in friendship keen, Would, ever try to play the game Like bowlers on the green. —F. MANDER.
