AUCKLAND GOES WET

RAIN AND MORE RAIN HEAVY FALL RECORDED WIND BLOWS A GALE. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND, This Day, It didn’t rain in Auckland yesterday —it poured! Early on Wednesday morning the rain fell while people were asleep, and when the time arrived to get out of bed yesterday no one felt very mud', like setting out for work. The wind had freshened to a gale, and about 7 o’clock rain came down in torrents. It kept up practically all day and conditions were very unpleasant in the city and suburbs. Every one had on overcoats, goloshes and carried umbrellas, and, much as they disliked it, women had to put away their thin summer dresses and step into heavy “woollens,” which they had discarded in the hope that winter had gone. Jack Frost was very severe yesterday, but this morning he does not knew whether to remain in Auckland or move elsewhere.. The sun shone early this morning, but about 8 o’clock it disappeared behind some heavy clouds and the result is that most people are still holding their umbrellas.

The gardens in the Auckland province are booking nice and fresh, because they had a continuous drink yesterday. At midnight last night the rainfall for the 24 hours was 1.32 inch, almost as much as the total amount which had fallen previously during the month. It was the heaviest day’s rainfall since September 15, when 1.76 inch fell during the 24 hours. September was really a dry month. The total rain was only 2.74 inches, being 1.11 inch below the average for September. Before yesterday rain had fallen eleven days this month, but only in light showers. '
