Since going to England, Merritt has been playing in Lancashire League cricket, and has been one of the outstanding players. He holds the league bowling record, which had been previously held by the great player, Barnes.

Merritt will take up his duties as coach early in October. The appointment will not sever Merritt’s connection with English cricket, which commenced in 1932. He will return to England at the close of the New Zealand season and resume playing for Lancashire League.
