This Day. | The New Zealand Farmers’ Union j Conference had before it yesterday morning the report of the special com- j mittee which was appointed to over- j haul the platform and rules of the j .union. The committee, which was set 'up at the 1933 conference, consisted of Messrs W. D. Matheson, D. Dickie, and R. H. Feisst. Last year’s conference | had not time to deal with the matter j and postponed the subject till this j year. , „T ! Clause 6 was ottered to read; In j order to facilitate closer settlement of i land, large estates should oe acquired ] by the Crown at a fair value, and suit- j able rural land should be purchased j and homes erected thereon for workers. who shall be entitled to purchase them on the time-payment principle, j An addition was made to Clause 9,; which now reads: “Crown grants, subsidies and sums of expenditure by the Main Highways Board for roads and bridges shall be allocated on a definite basis, and when voted by Parliament shall be at once available and applicable to the particular work for which they are intended, and on no account be diverted or allowed to lapse, and j wherever possible such grants should [be expended by local bodies. 1 Clauses 10. 11 and 12 were deleted, j Clause 15 was amended to read: i "Only ratepayers be empowered to j vote at any election or poll concerning I anv county road board, hospital board, j harbour. 'board, or electric power board.” j The rules were given a thorough overhaul and various alterations made.
