NATIONAL APPEAL

LLOYD GEORGE CAMPAIGN. WEALTH AND WORKLESS. * ' CRITICS RIDICULED. I■■ ' . (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, January 19. Mr Lloyd George, continuing his campaign at- Pwllheli, Wales, addressed 2000 farmers arid local residents. Speaking in Welsh, he expressed satisfaction at the response accorded his appeal and deftly ridiculed his critics. Mr Lloyd George said the leaders of the country could specially examine the miseries and despondencies which were darkening two and a half million homes owing to unemployment, and' then turn to the hundreds of millions of pounds lying idle in the banks to redress the country’s' deficiencies.

In reply to a question regarding the Douglas Credit system, the speaker said he favoured its investigation, but did not think any system alone could solve the problem. 1 He had always doubted the advisability of juggling with currency.

BACK TO THE FOLD. LIBERALS AND LLOYD GEORGE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 20. The “Sunday Despatch” says that efforts are being made behind the scenes to restore Mr Lloyd George to leadership of the Liberal Party, whose executive will shortly discuss his “New Deal” policy. Mr Lloyd George will afterwards be invited to address Liberal Members of Parliament, and will also probably address Progressive Conservatives.
