TRAIN CRASH
TASMANIAN TRAGEDY. YOUNG GIRL KILLED. OTHERS INJURED. (Received 11 a.m.) HOBART, This Day. A girl named Sheila Lyons, aged 12, was killed and six persons were injured on the Noi'th-west coast of Tasmania when a train which was travelling from Burnie to Wynyard crashed through a culvert, which had been partially washed away by heavy rain. Only a few passengers were aboard the train, otherwise, it is stated, the death roll would have been considerable.
The engine toppled on its side and plunged into a ditch and a composite car carrying passengers crashed heavily on its side. Shiela Lyons had both legs severed. Another girl, Betty Darling, had one leg cut off and another leg crushed and broken. Her condition is critical. Two other passengers were injured and their condition is serious.
