SO HE HIKED, TOO!

Every summer the hiking craze grows keener in England. For weeks a little eight-year-old boy named Peter had watched happy people go striding by in their shorts, carrying sticks and rucksacks.

The sight of so much freedom was too much for Peter, so calling his dog, he set out from his home in London to do a little hiking on his own. He walked right into Kent that day, and spent the night in a half-built house. Next day the pair set off again, having fortified themselves with apples. The following night Peter slept in a shed, and the next day a woman gave him 3d, so he travelled in luxury in a bus. When the sixpennyworth of ride came to an end, he and his companion walked again, until a policeman found them, and took them home to tea; meanwhile sending for Peter’s parents. But Peter was quite cheerful and undaunted when he was found. A 50-mile walk, two nights out. and little food seemed In have agreed with him.
