Scored 44 Runs Off Over.
One of the records in cricket established by Dr Eric Barbour, which is not mentioned in notices of his career, is the scoring of 44 runs off one over. This he did at Toowoomba (Q.) in December, 1921. Nine balls were allowed by the umpire, and from these he smote 2,6, 6,6, 4,6, 6,2. 6. He retired after scoring 120, in which were seven sixes and 16 fours. Does any record-keeper and omniscient reader know anything to surpass this sultry bit of willow wielding? For a batsman of sound orthodoxy, Dr. Barbour, when the whim seized him, could step into the ball, use the long handle, and smite with a skill'by no moans common.
