LEFT-HANDED GOLFERS
Although one or two left-handed golfers may be found in almost every club, it is surprising how few become prominent players (comments a writer in an English paper). L. Nettleford won the Australian championship in 1926 and 1928, and with his father won the foursomes championship of Tasmania in 1926. The next year he visited Great Britain, and in the amateur championship at Hoylake reached the sixth round, in which he was beaten by the ultimate winner, Dr. Tweddell. Another left-handed player, P. B. Lucas (Sandy Lodge), won the. boys’ title in 1933, and this year reached the fifth x’ound of the English championship. In the 1921 Oxford University team there were three lefthanders. They were I. S. Thomas (Formby), G. Mellor and A. H. S. Vivian; that was one of the two seasons in which C. J. H. Tolley and R. H. Wethered were the top players for Oxford. An outstanding professional left-hander is W. Watt (Dirleton). who won the Scottish championship in 1912.
