RECORD CROWD PRESENT,
MANY ENTERTAINMENTS,
[Per Press Association. — Copyright l, HOKITIKA, This Day.
The Hokitika jubilee celebrations were continued yesterday in fine weather. A record crowd was present when the old-time procession took place. A very fine display was made, headed by Maoris in a war-time canoe, and including many old-time relics and tableaux. The streets were gaily decorated, and were lined with delighted spectators. The pioneers’ luncheon at the Soldiers’ Hall was largely attended. Sports were held on the racecourse in the afternoon, and were followed by an old-time social in the evening. The largest crowd seen in Hokitika for many years thronged the town on Christmas Eve, when the streets were gaily illuminated. The celebrations continued today and will conclude on Monday night, the New Year being welcomed with a monster fireworks display. Many old West Coasters from all parts of New Zealand have been present for the celebrations. !
