FALL FROM FERRY
YOUNG WOMAN RESCUED.
LUCKY ESCAPE FROM INJURY.
[Special to M Northern Advocate”} AUCKLAND, This Day.
A young woman from Devonport fell into the harbour when attempting to step from the 8 • o’clock ferry when it reached Auckland this morning. She had a lucky escape from serious injury. The vessel had been made secure and , preparations were being made to pull the gangway down. Several passengers stepped off the top deck, which was flush with the wharf on to the stringers, but when the young woman attempted to do likewise she misjudged the distance and fell between the stringers and the ferry. When she came to the surface she seized a crossmember of the stringers but was in a precarious position with the vessel gradually swinging in. Passengers on the lower deck reached out and pulled her back in a dazed condition. However, she had practically recovered when a St. John ambulance on the wharf arrived and she returned by the ferry to her home apparently none the worse.
