ON ELERSLIE TRACES
SMART SPRINTING. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND, This Day. The weather was perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning and several fast sprints were recorded. Trainers had tire use of No. 2 grass track, and the going was hard and fast. The tan and sand and two-year-old tracks were also in use. On Parade was first out, being timed ! to run four furlongs in 52 4-ssec. Ho was going easily at the finish and looks well after his race at Avondale. The Surveyor gelding Tooley Street got to the end of five furlongs in 1.9 1-5, taking 41 l-ssec for the last three. Wee Pat strode over a round in 1.42 l-5i the last seven furlongs taking 1.30 3-5. This mare is in first rate condition for the holiday meeting. Chief Emerald, going easily, ran five furlongs in 1.9 1-5, and Barn Dance pleased better than My Money after traversing half a mile in 51 l-ssec. One of the best sprints of the morning over half a mile was registered by King Musk, who completed the distance 49 1-5. It was a smart effort, and ho was running on solidly at the finish. The stable mates Firebrick and ; A.ir Lassie, after running their first furiong in 12 l-ssec, got to the end of four furlongs in 50 2-ssec. There was little between them at the finish, and both worked well. Killadar finished in front of Psychologist at the conclusion of a round, which occupied 1.54 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1:18 2-5. This was a pleasing effort, and Killadar did his work impressively. Thespis was schooled over steeple-, chase fences on the flat, giving a firstclass and clever jumping display., hie repeated the performance, fencing in a similar manner.
