LIGHTWEIGHT CATTLE IMPROVE. SHEEP VALUES DOWN. PIG PRICES RECEDE. I Special to “Northern Advocate,”! AUCKLAND, This Day. The following report on the weekly fat stock sale held at Westfield yesterday is supplied by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Son, Lfd.— Beef,—We penned fat cattle to the number of 139 head, as against 291 head last week, comprising 68 steers and 71 cows and heifers. The quality generally was on a par with last week’s, and all classes sold freely with values for lightweight cattle showing a slight improvement. Extra choice ox sold to 27/ per lOOlbs; choice and prime, 24/ to 26/; secondary and plain. 21/ to 23/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 22/ to 25/; ordinary cow beef, 14/ to 20/; extra heavy prime steers, £lO 12/6 to £ll 10/; 15 steers from Mr Ben Reed, Waerenga, averaged £lO 2/; heavy prime, £9 5/ to £lO 10/; lighter prime, £7 10/ to £9; light prime, £6 10/ to £7 7/6; small and unfinished, £5 to £6 5/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £6 to £7; heavy prime, £5 to £5 15/; lighter, £3 15/ to £4 17/6; other killable cows, £1 15/ to £3 10/.

Sheep.—We yarded sheep to the number of 1645, prices for all classes showing a slight decrease on last week’s sale. Extra heavy prime wethers, 26/9 to 27/6; heavy prime, 25/ to 26/6; medium to heavy, 23/6 to 24/9; light to medium, 32/ to 33/; unfinished wethers and hoggets, 17/ to 21/6. No extra heavy prime young ewes were yarded. Heavy prime ewes, 17/ to 19/; lighter, 15/6 to 16/9; other killable ewes, 13/ to 15/. Spring Lambs.—Lambs were yarded in small numbers, with the result that competition was very keen (65 lambs sold). Extra heavy prime, 22/ to 24/; heavy, 20/ to 21/6; lighter, 18/ to 19/6; light, 16/9 to 17/6; small and plain, 13/6 to 15/6.

Calves.—There was a lesser offering of calves. The demand was firm for all prime quality sorts, but erratic for other classes. Runners made 38/ to 100/; heavy vealers, 64/ to 70/; medium, 54/ to 58/; light, 32/ to 40/; small, 25/ to 30/; unfinished and bucket-fed, 8/ to 15/; bobby calves, 2/ to 6/ (199 calves, were sold). Pigs.—We again had a full yarding of pigs. The inquiry was hardly so good and values were slightly lower. Choppers .made 34/ to 58/; heavy prime baconers, 70/ to 74/; medium, 61/ to 64/; light, 51/ to 55/; heavy porkers. 47/ to 50/; medium, 42/ to 44/; light and unfinished, 34/ to 40/; Stores again sold readily at fully late rates. Best-framed, 32/ to 36/; slips, 22/ to 25/: good weaners, 16/ to 20/; others, 9/ to 14/; sows, due to farrow, 50/ to 95/. Baconers realised from s;ld to -s£d per lb., and porkers, 6d to 6£d per lb (a total of 639 pigs were sold).
