WIDOWS IN DISTRESS

> PENSION SUGGESTED LEGISLATION PENDING [Per Press Association.—Copyright.} WELLINGTON, This Day. A pension matter was brought to the notice of the House of Representatives yesterday in a question asked by Mr. W. G. Dickie (Government —Patea), who said he was associated in- the question with all the returned soldier members of the House. Mr. Dickie said there was distress among the widows of returned soldiers who were married more than two years after their husbands were discharged from the forces. These women were unable to obtain relief under the existing war pensions legislation. He asked if the Minister of Pensions would introduce a bill to amend the Pensions Act to make provision for those cases. He added that there were only 160 cases in the Dominion, so the annual cost would not be large. The Hon. J. G. Cobbe said it was proposed to deal with the matter as soon as practicable. When the legislation it was proposed to introduce was brought down _it was intended to include the widows and children of returned soldiers who were married more than two years after their discharge.
