SPRING MEETING

CARNIVAL AT KENSINGTON GOOD FIELDS FOR TOMORROW. THE CARD REVIEWED. (By “Spotter.”) The Spring Carnival of the Whangarei Racing Club will open at Kensington Park tomorrow, and at time of writing the weather promises to be fine. The track, benefited by recent rains, should be in perfect condition. The various events have filled well, and the number of acceptors, 78, is only two lower than on the first day last year. Proceedings will commence at 12.20, with the — SPRING PLATE, Of 60 sovs. Six furlongs, Aramis 8 0 Aubretia 7 9 Benighted 8 0 Crooning 7 9 Friar Express 7 9 Albertus 8 0 Kilonsoa .*7 9 Gay Sol 8 0 Lady Diana 7 9 Impellant 8 0 Laudatory 7 9 Lap Up 8 0 Memnon 7 9 Orefield 8 0 Royal Winton 7 9 Acranna 7 9

There are quite a number of possibilities in this race. Crooning, if started, will be hard to dispose of, but she may be reserved for the Kensington Hack. Lady Diana performed well at Avondale and others that have good form to their credit are Aubretia, Orefield, Express, Memnon, Laudatory, and Aramis. If Crooning is withdrawn the favoured trio may be: — LADY DIANA EXPRESS AUBRETIA.

At 1.0 p.m. the field will line up for the— HIKURANGI HACK HANDICAP, Of 80 sovs. One mile.

Monanui 9 5 Princess Bede 7 4 Solomon 8 7 Solo Song 7 3 Bonny Gay 8 2 Miss Lu 7 1 Hawthorn 7 4 Aubretia 7 0 In the above event some of the candidates claim other engagements. Monanui may be reserved for the Cup, but should she start in this event will be hard to beat. Solomon may find the distance a bit too far, but Bonny Gay, Hawthorn, Princess Bede and Miss Lu should go well. Most support may come for— BONNY GAY MISS LU HAWTHORN.

The next event, timed to start at 1.45 p.m., is the— HUANUI HACK HURDLES,

Of 65 sovs. One mile and a half and 197 yards. Archeen 10 3 Benighted 9 0 Neil 10 3 Blue Bonnet 9 0 Diversion 10 1 Auburn Rose 9 0 Silver Notamint 9 0

Division 913 Tondaleyo 9 0

The scale of weights in this event is moderate, but a good race should ensue between the nine contestants. Archeen is a very consistent performer, but has not had much racing this season. Neil is a solid jumper, and usually a safe conveyance. Diversion has only to be in good order to prove dangerous, but she has a habit of stopping when once over the last fence. Silver Division should be improved by racing at Avondale. The horses that appeal are — NEIL' ARCHEEN DIVERSION. The next race - on the programme is the— WHANGAREI CUP HANDICAP, Of 150 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Gay Broney 8 13 Monanui 7 3 Lord Val 8 7 Maori Boy 7 2 Desert Star 8 0 Alloy 7 2 Whakapara 8 0 Ornamental 7 0 All the acceptors in this event should line up at the barrier at 2.30 p.m. Gay Broney is a useful sort when right, but hi§ Avondale showing suggests that he may find 8.13 too much to carry and beat some of those lower down the scale. The Waikato form displayed by Lord Val ensures solid support for him in this event, and he should be suited by the track. Desert Star, at one time a very good performer, has come through a solid preparation at Ellerslie, and he will command respect on that account. He lacks nothing on the score of condition. Whakapara i*an a creditable seven at Avondale on Monday.. Monanui is a very honest performer, and if J. Hoey elects to start her in this race she will keep the opposition busy. Alloy and Maori Boy do not appeal, but Ornamental is one quite likely to upset calculations. When the figures are adjusted the three in most request may be— LORD VAL MONANUI DESERT STAR. The following will face the starter at 3.10 p.m. to contest the — COUNTY HANDICAP, Of 60 sovs. Six furlongs. Tea Chat 10 10 Titanette 8 5 Gay Paper Dart 712 Cockade 10 8 Impellant 7 0 Archeen 10 8 Olivette 7 0 Hoihoma 9 9 Blue Bonnet 7 0 Royal Potoa 9 2 In this race Tea Chat is likely to go well, but will have to be in good form to dispose of Titanette and Royal Potoa. Gay Cockade would only have to be equal to past form to keep the rest of the field busy. Archeen may not be started. Hoihoma has good credentials and must be considered. The place-gettei’s should come from— TITANETTE. ROYAL POTOA GAY COCKADE. The totalisator will have closed at 3.50 p.m, for the— KENSINGTON HACK HANDICAP, Of 80 sovs. Six furlongs.| Solomon 9 0 Hoihoma 7 7 Bellkyrian 8 4 La Femme Sir Willonyx 7 13 Noir 7 5 Hawthorn 7 10 Lady Diana’ 7 1 Princess Bede 7 10 Friar Crooning , 7 9 Albertus 7 0 Solo Song 7 9 Memnon 7 0 Lord Willonyx 7 7 There are some smart hacks m this event. Solomon will be an absentee, Bellkyrian has given an indication recently of getting on the winning Aist soon, and if Crooning is reserved for this event she will command solid support. Hawthorn is another one that will go well if started. The field may consist of eight. Those preferred are - BELLKYRIAN CROONING SOLO SONG.

*The.second leg of; the double is the— MANAIA HANDICAP, Of 100 so vs. Six furlongs, British Solomon 7 6 Columbia 9 0 Bellkyrian 7 0 Whakapara 8 0 Lady Diana 7 0 Karangapai 710 Matorni 7 0 Arch Ruler 7 10 The field is not strong numerically and will be further depleted by the absence of Solomon. It is possible that only five runners will line up,’ viz., British Columbia, Whakapara, Karangapai, Arch Ruler, Matorni. The best fancied are likely to be— ARCH RULER BRITISH COLUMBIA MATORNI. The day’s racing will conclude with the— PARAHAKI HANDICAP, •Of 80 sovs. One mile. Lord Val 9 6 Lady’s Boy 8 7 Karangapai 810 Alloy 8 0 Jalldy Karo 810 Bonny Gay 8 0 Here again there may be a small field. JALLDY KARO BONNY GAY LORD VAL, may receive most support. ON THE TRAIN.
