PLAZA. j “THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN.” ] _ C “This Side of Heaven,” the film now ] screening at the Plaza Theatre, pre- J sents the problems of a typical middle- : class family, and the events of their individual lives are crowded together to form an intensely human document. Heading an impressive cast is Lionel ] Bai’rymore in a role which will rank as one of the best performances of the year—a truthful moving drama of an everyday man suddenly tangled in a " web of disaster. Others in a fine cast are Mae Clarke, Una Merkel, Onslow Stevens, Eddie Nugent and Dickie [ Moore. The film is an adaptation of the novel. “It Happened One Day.” The story deals with the shadow of impris- | onment that hangs over the father, ' 1 who has been innocently involved in j r an embezzlement in his firm, while the " romances of his children, and the high hopes of his wife of becoming a successful novelist, pile themselves one upon the other to reach a climax which is appealingly human. When the father seems hopelessly involved, and his world comes tumbling down, his hitherto self-centred family rallies round to provide a happy ending. There is sufficient material in events of a day out of the lives of this everyday family to go to the making of an* absorbing evening’s entertainment and with attractive short features, including a Hal Roach comedy, “Apples to You,” Travelogue, and latest Metrotone News, it makes a capital programme which will be screened for one more night only at the Plaza,
