I j A car load of officers of the Star of j Hikurangi Lodge journeyed to Whangarei on Tuesday night to conduct the installation of officers of the Star of Whangarei order. Supper and a social concluded an enjoyable evening. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. “PAT” HAMILTON. j Twelve of “Pat” Hamilton’s young (friends assembled at her home on Saturday afternoon on the occasion -of her sixth birthday. Games, which were the source of considerable amusement, were followed by a sumptuous tea, the bright feature being the handsome birthday cake decorated with six candles. The cake was made by Pat’s aunt, Miss McDonald. STEWART MARSHALL. The second birthday of her little son Stewart prompted Mrs W. Marshall, of Valley Rogd, to entertain twenty-four children and a number of parents at her home pn Sunday. The function took the form of a Mickey Mouse party, with the juveniles wearing the popular cat faces. A big cake was decorated in orange and white. Little Stewart was the recipient of a nice lot of presents, that from his parents being a beautiful toy motor car. PERSONAL PARS. IN TOWN AND OUT, Mr and Mrs W. Hamilton and small son, Graham, of View Road, have taken up residence ip Whangarei, . where Mr Hamilton has secured a position. Mrs L. Stubbing, of Union Street, paid a flying visit to Auckland at the latter end of last week. Mr and Mrs S. Pearson and family left on Tuesday to spend a week in Whangarei. Mr R. Nesbitt returned from Wellington at the week-end. Mr A, H. Taylor is the guest of his daughter, Mrs W. R. Dunn, George Street. PIGEON FLYING. | TWO MORE EVENTS DECIDED. Under the auspices of the Hikurangi Homing Pigeon Club, the interval race which was flown from National Park and confined to yearlings was won by R. Longlands’ Mischief, with D. Wilson’s Blue Check second and H. Codling’s Just Quietly third. The send-thpee, clock-two race from Ohakune (also for yearlings) was flown last Saturday in nice weather, which enabled the birds to put up the good velocity of 1128 yards per minute for close on 300 miles. This race was won by G. Davies, with R. Longlands second and D. Wilson third. G. ; Davies wins the Tartan Trophy. R. Longlands now has a commanding lead in the yearling average, with G, Davies second and R. Laurie third. The race this week-end will be an interval race for the old birds and will be from Wanganui, an airline distance of over 300 miles. The birds will be liberated as early as possible on Saturday morning by Mr J, Patterson, of Wanganui. This race will be for a trophy donated by Mr D. Wilson, of Whangarei.
