STOCK EXCHANGE
TONE STILL BUOYANT,
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day.
The Auckland Stock Exchange commenced a fi’esh week’s business with a continuance of the buoyant tone that has prevailed recently. More sales were recorded than is usual at the first call of the week.
In the banking section, New Zealands were steady, With fresh business at 48/, but Commercials set back further, and a sale was made at 17/4, after which the market stood at 17/3 to 17/8.
There was the usual good demand at 67/ brought in a seller at 69/6,
in insurances, and offers of Standards shares had a sale 5/ higher, after which all its issues were still in request. Australian miscellaneous securities were firm at late sales. The latest rise in Woolworth’s Ltd., Sydney, seemed to have been checked, as after further business at 76/6 there were still sellers at that figure. Woolworths, New Zealand, on the other hand, firmed up, an offer of £ 7 10/ failing to interest holders. Northern Roller Mills were in better demand, and a buyer moved up to 32/6. Government stocks were wanted at late rates, and two parcels were on '.offer of 1940’s at £IOB 10/, and one 'of 1955’s at £lll 15/. ! In the pastoral division, Farmers’ ! Auctioneering again came in for special attention, and the, ordinary £5 NOON CALL. Sales recorded at the noon call were:—Commercial Bank (2), 17/4; British Tobacco, £1 18/9; Northern Roller Mills, £1 14/; Gillespie’s Beach 11/lOJ; Skippers, 7sd; Stock, 1940, 4 ! per cent, £IOB 5/; Stock, 1955, 4 per cent, £lll 10/; Auckland Gas, 1/5/35, 6 per cent,'£lo3 10/. Unlisted: Woolworths, Sydney, £3 16/6.
