MOTORING TRIP
FARMING CONDITIONS Recently a tour by motor was made jby Mr J. .Taceutho, a Poria farmer, in I •which the main centres ns far clown las Marton were visited. He was accompanied by Messrs H. B. Bloano and J. Wilson (Whan "arc i) and B. Mountain, of the Bay of Islands, and an endeavour was made to cover as much "round as possible in the short, time available. From Auckland the parly went on to Hamilton, Cambridge. Rotorua, Taupo, and Napier, attending in the last-named place the annual sheep dog trials. Mr Jacentho took a special interest in these trials, and brought away with him.the prize winner in the maiden hnntawa v.
After leaving Napier, the party stopped at Hastings, Waipukurau, Danjnevirke, Palmerston North, Marton asd 1 Wanganui. In Taranaki they visited all the chief towns up to New Plymouth, and Mt. Egmont came in for particular attention. Mr Jacentho studied, as carefully as time permitted, the farming conditions in each of the districts through which he passed. He saw much to impress him very favourably, but also noticed that there was a great deal of poor, neglected country, lie considered there was land in the Far North as good as the best he had seen on his travels.
Continuing the journey northward, j the Waitomo Caves, To Kuiti, Cambridge, and Te Avolia were visited. The whole trip occupied 17 days.
