-NTr L. B. Roberts, of the railway shipping office, Wellington, has been visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs W. "Roberts, of Kerikeri. A memorial tablet erected in Westminster Abbey to the late Earl of Oxford and Asquith, was unveiled yesterday by the acting Prime Minister, Mr Baldwin. Air W. .Stewart, of Hall Avenue, chief draughtsman in the. Public Works Department, Whangarei, is an inmate of a private hospital in Auckland, where ho has undergone an operation to his eyes. The two debaters from the University of Washinglon, United States, Messrs Robert K. Burns and Lyle At. Spencer, arrived at Auckland by the Afariposa today . to commence their tour of New Zealand. Superintendent A. S. Bird, who has been in charge of the Tirnaru Police District since his transfer from Invercargill five years ago, was entertained at a banquet at Tirnaru to mark his retirement from the Police Force. Guests at the Leviathan Hotel include: Afr and Airs L. .1. Turnbull (Adelaide), Alisses AT. Easey, K. .Tosephson, 1.. Oliver, Air and Mrs T. Holtz, Air R. .1. Lacey (Wanganui), Afr Petersen (Auckland), Afrs Walker (Sydney). The Rev, H. ,f. Odell, minister of the Thorndon Afethodist Church, Wellington, has accepted an invitation to the Napier charge. Subject to ratification by the New Zealand Methodist Conference in February, the change will take place in April. :
Mr C. M. Hume, Dominion Supervisor of Herd Testing, will attend the annual meeting of the Whangarei Group to ho held at the Madeira Hall on August 1. Mr Hume’s object in attending is to put before farmers important facts, also to answer questions relating to dairy "arm management generally, and espoc:ally the profitable handling of pigs.
Mr K. Symington, the well-known swimmer, who'has held the North Auckland championship, loft today for Helensville, whore he is to take up n position. Although the sport in this district will he the poorer for Dir -Symington’s departure, it is anticipated that he will bo instrumental in bringing the Helcnsvillc and Whangarei Swimming Clubs into closer association'. A regular interchange of visits at carnivals between the two centres lias been under contemplation for some seasons.
