Marshal retain, Minister of War, addressing journalists at a luncheon, said: ‘‘France will remain on the defensive. She has suffered 100 greatly in run risk's deliberately. "France, though she has reduced her armaments, fears nobody. We have clad our frontiers with arms, and have methodically motorised onr big units. "France realises her exposure la brutal and sudden air attacks, yet to stimulate confidence need only note the reawakening of her glorious ancestral military spirit. "The army maintains the necessary man power to guarantee territorial inviolabilty.. ’ The Government won a decisive victory when the Chancellor, by an overwhelming majority, rejected a Socialist motion against granting £29,U0(),0i)0 military credit, M. Douiiiergue, Prime Minister, hinted that he would resign if the credits were not voted. He said that the credits were (‘.specially necessary because Germany had ostentatiously 1 decided to rearm.
