MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. .A GOOD OPPORTUNITY. WHEN PRIME MINISTERS MEET, (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON,’June .12. A plea for the utilisation of the visit to England of the Prime Ministers of the Dominions, on the occasion of the King's 25th anniversary, for a family conclave on Hie question of an Empire monetary system was made bv Sir Arthur Shirley Bonn, a past president, in an address at the Conference of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the Empire, Sir Arthur said the federation, although it was keenly advocating interlinperinl trade, had never tried to exclude foreign trade. There- Avas a possibility that in a future not remote they Avould have no choice in the matter, but progress Avould he limited until the situation was satisfactorily dealt with. • A motion was moved by Mr Sydney Jacobs (Wellington) reaffirming that the principle of Hie Ottawa agreements offered the best hopes for the prosperity of Hie trade and commerce of Hie Empire countries, and calling on all the Empire Governments to maintain close contact with one another. The motion also advocated consultation between organised industry and commerce and agriculture in the respective countries, with the object of developing and extending inter-imperial preferences. It Avas decided to hold the next conference in New Zealand in 1920.
