VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS. • PROPOSALS CRITICISED. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Much criticism of a. letter received from the Australian Football Association concerning the proposed tour of New Zealand was voiced by members of the Connell of the New Zealand Football Association last night. The letter stated that, in view of the decision of the annual meeting of the Tour Committee, the Australian Association could not recommend to the State that the tour should take place unless a definite offer was received which would reasonably guarantee the cost of assembling, dispersal and equipment. , The terms suggested wore 10 per cent of the gross gate takings and' a maximum of £2OO, or, alternatively, 50 per cent of the net profits with a minimum of £l5O. It was pointed out. that New Zealand Inst year had incurred great expense In paying its own assembly charges and had looked at this coming tour for reimbursement. “In view of the present financial position of the country,” said the chairman, Mr P>. L. 'Salmond, “it is very dubious whether we should undertake a tour on these terms.” A motion was passed that the Australian Association be asked to keep the terms o-f the previous agreement, and, failing this, the’ council would •not consider a tour this year. A letter was ; received r from Otago issuing a challenge for the Football Association trophy. A challenge was also received from Wellington. It was decided that Otago should play the first match against the holders, Auckland. It was agreed that'steamer and rail- . way fares, second class, should be guaranteed to teams in the final and j scml-fmals of the Chatham Cnp com- | petition-.
