LATE STARTS
WHANGAREI MEETINGS. ‘ ‘ ALMOST INVARIABLE. ” “I often wonder if it, is the climate,” said a Whangarei man this morning, commenting to an “Advocate” reporter upon the fact that meetings in Whangarei alnlo’sP invariably start late. “I attend a great number of meetings,” lie said, “and they always start late,‘because if 7.30 is the appointed hour some people never seem to think it necessary to attend before about 7.40, and if 8 o’clock.is the hour, the start is later than that. To a lot of busy men this is very annoying, I have heard it said.that the Northland climate is . rather inclined to make people easy-going in regard to time, and it certainly looks .like it.”
The promptness with which Whangarei local bodies start .their meet- ! ings was mentioned by the- reporter, j and the man agreed that though he was not a - member, ho had always heard that these bodies commenced business without any waste of time. “But other meetings are not so particular,” he added, “and I have seen football matches which were supposed to start at 1.30 begin nearer 2 o’clock, simply because someone or other was late. It is all very annoying.’ ’
