CHANGE OF TABLET PORTERS Tv AMO AND RUATANGATA The removal of the railway tablet porter from Kamo to Rnalangata has evoke A protests from the Kamo Town Board, and also a petition signed by the local stock firms. , Writing to Mr A. .T. Murdoch, M.P., the . auctioneers contended that the diversion of .stock traffic from Kamo to Ruatangata . would endanger public safety. . A reply is, now to hand from the General Manager. New Zealand Railways, to the effect .that the department has ,110 intention of closing Kamo station for traffic, and intending passengers, will not ...be .affected, to any great extent by the. withdrawal of the porter. The alteration, says .Mr Sterling, has been made for the .purpose of giving valuable assistance to the department’s clients in dealing with goods and stock traffic, which is considerable, and incidentally much greater than that handled at Kamo. Tt was also proposed to withdraw the tablet porter at Kauri, and it was believed that considerable economy and improved train facilities would result. Under all the circumstances, it was thought by the department that the changes would bo helpful rather than detrimental.
