Mr A. McCarthy, Crown Prosecutor at Apia, reached Lyttelton by the Government steamer Maui Pomare from Samoa recently. Flight-l.ient. ,T. D. Hewilt has iiceu promoted Squadron-Leader, to succeed Squadiou-Leader J. Seabiook, who has retired from the command of No. 1 (Army Corporation) Squadron. New Zealand Territorial Air Force. .Mr D. A. 0, Dutherford, Snperintendant of Schools in Western Samoa, who with Airs Dutherford has been spending his furlough at Dunedin, will have by the Maui Pomare from Wellington next Tuesday on his return to Apia. The popularity of Father V. Courtrev, who has been assistant parish priest, at St Anthony’s Doman Catholic Church, Huntly, for the past two years, and has been transferred to St. Benedict’s Church, Auckland,-was displayed by the largo attendance at a. farewell dance and social tendered to him at Huntly this week. [ Mr F. C, Calvert has been appointed mine manager of the Mahakipawa Goldfields, Ltd.,. Marlborough, iu succession to Mr K. M. Entrance, whoso death occurred in January. Mr Calvert, who is mine manager of the Talisman Dubbo mine, Karangaliake, will take up bis position early next month. lie is a graduate of the Otago School of Minos, and lias had experience iu Tasmania and the Malav States.
