DEPREDATIONS BY DOGS
SHEEP WORRIED. ALSATIANS DANGEROUS. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) DUNEDIN, This Day. Complaints of the depredations of Alsatian dogs just outside the City boundary have been made to the Dunedin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals -by a produce firm, which states that the dogs disembowelled one shoe)), and, although one of the dogs was shot, the other managed to escape. The danger of allowing this breed to be near sheep could not be nveistressed, a member stated. It was not the society’s duty to take action against a man who owned an Alsatian do<+, but if it did damage the society could then act in the matteh The only course to follow was to approach Parliament in an.effort to have legislation passed to protect stock from these animals. They were one man dogs, and, when out of conttol, might do anything. The chairman: “We could legitimately take action in this case, although it is really a matter for the police.” Apparently the best course would be to ask the Government to prohibit the importation of Alsatian dogs, said the chairman. Further consideration of the matter was postponed until there was a larger attendance.
