MAUNGATAPERE SPORTS

NOMINATIONS CLOSE FRIDAY The secretary of the Alaungatapere Athletic Club,' Air F. O. Armstrong, reports that splendid entries for both the track, and axemen’s events have been received to date. With two more days left before the closing period it is expected that quite a number more will be received. One thing certain, said the secretary, the principal events have been strongly supported and the public are assured of some sterling contests. The standard of competitors is exceptionally high, as will be seen when the handicaps are declared in a few days time. Every endeavour will be made by the executive to have tho meeting conducted as cleanly as possible, with a view to debarring the undesirable side-show element, which is likely to creep in on such a big and important occasion. Games of chance and anything calculated to incite gambling will bo carefully watched and those endeavouring., to conduct such games will be prohibited from entering the grounds. 777
