HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SEVERAL RECORDS BROKEN. ANNUAL FIXTURE YESTERDAY

A number of records were broken fit. the annual sports of the girls of the Whangarei High School held yesterday afternoon. The programme comprised 42 events, but the organisation was most complete and there was no delay in deciding the winners. A number of parents, friends and old pupils attended. The tracks were in perfect order, but a high wind blowing from the north-east was a bit troublesome. In the championship senior long jump H. Walker beat the previous record of left dins, by one inch, and in tho handicap event, AL Smith, off scratch, jumped 14ft tin. In the senior championship 100yds, .1. Cox beat the previous record of Ulsec, doing the distance in 12 2-dsec. B. Hills bettered by one inch the record in the junior championship high jump, clearing 4ft, and in the handicap event, B. MeLachlan, off scratch, cleared 4ft 2ins. In the intermediate high jump championship, 0. Thomson jumped 4ft 2in, an inch better than the previous record. In the handicap event, S. Stewart, off scratch, cleared 4ft Sins. J. Cox added five inches to the record in the senior high jump championship, clearing 4ft din, and R. Blumhardt, with one inch handicap, jumped the same height in the handicap event. J. West broke the hop, step and jump intermediate record, jumping 30ft Sins, two inches more than the previous record, and R. Blumhardt added Ift Tins to the senior hop, step and jump, clearing 32 feet. In the 100yds intermediate handicap final, N, Weston, off scratch, did the distance in 12 2-ssec, the previous record being 12 4-osec. In the boys’ events, R. Barber, in tho 220yds intermediate championship, equalled the senior record of 25 l-ssee, and in the 880yds junior championship 1.
