A challenge issued by the Portland ladies’ hockey-team-to the married men of Portland, to a game of hockey, was accepted, and the match took place on the recreation ground on Saturday, .The married men took the matter very seriously and called on all who were fit to forward their unities for selection. The team had,an analysing at the Portland laboratory and the following test was decided on for use:—Captain, “Harigoldio” Gordon, from Pack House, ought to gag a few; ‘ ‘ Lucy ’’■ Chilman, baker, with dough experience, must mix well; “Doreen” Lorrimer, from the mill, -should crush them down; “Simplena” ■Curran, from the railway, should not allow any past without a ticket; “.Timma” Hill ought to keep them puffing, There were many others, including Mr G. Hubert, as doctor, with a bag offresh paint and paste. For a week the team was in training at the end of the wharf at midnight.
