TRAP FOR GANGSTERS
DISGUISED DETECTIVE AEROPLANE GIVES SIGNAL HOT FIRE SUSTAINED DESPERADOES ESCAPE
(United Press Association —By ElectrU Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 0 a.m.) CHICAGO, August 10. Two gangsters, believed to be members of a large kidnapping gang, escaped in sensational fashion from an elaborate trap laid for them by Federal agents. Armed with machine guns, the gangsters had demanded a further sum of dO,OOO dollars from Jacob Factor, who enlisted the aid of the police. A detective disguised as a messenger boy was given money to take to a roadside resort. When he paid the money over he was to give a signal to an aeroplane, the observer of which in turn was to radio to the police to block all roads in the vicinity.
The kidnappers took the money and started away in a motor car. The airman broadcast a warning and then the pilot flew low and started to fire at the car with a machine gun. In the meanwhile a score of police ears had gone into action. The officers fired upon and wrecked the gangsters’ car but the occupants succeeded in gaining their freedom by running through some underscrub. It is stated that only a few bills were given to the gangsters to provide evidence if they were caught, not the whole ;"0,000 dollars demanded.
