PROSPECTS IN U.S.A. ENVOYS MEET OFFICIALS MUTUAL ADVANTAGES. PRESIDENT OFFERS HOPE. (United Press Association —Bv Electm Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 0 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 15. Important conversations regarding future commercial relations between New Zealand and the United States were held today by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr G. W. Forbes, and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr R. Masters, with high officials of the American Departments of State and Commerce. At a luncheon tendered by President Roosevelt to the New Zealand Ministers, opportunity was taken by the President to mention the question of reciprocal trade between the two countries. His subsequent discussion with Mr Masters is said to have been of a most frank and friendly nature. Later, Mr Masters again met a representative group of executive officers of the .State Agricultural Department. Appreciation was expressed on behalf of the New Zealand Government of the action of that department in lifting the embargo against 1 New Zealand fruit.
The view was strongly expressed by Mr Masters that it should be possible to come to a satisfactory agreement whereby Now Zealand producers could exchange some of •their products for lines of American goods of a special nature, to the mutual advantage of both countries. The market for New Zealand wool in the United States, and the problems of augmenting sales, were closely studied. Other main New" Zealand products also were analysed and discussed. Both New" Zealand Ministers expressed satisfaction at the friendly nature of their discussions, especially the encouraging and sympathetic view’s voiced by Mr Roosevelt, Messrs Forbes and Masters are duo in Boston on Thursday. There they will confer w’ith leading firms dealing in New" Zealand wool.
