RUGBY UNION

ACCIDENT INSURANCE. INADEQUACY ADMITTED. FINANCE LIMITED. i At the meeting of the Whangarei Rugby Union Management Committee on Tuesday, a, discussion took place on the remarks of the chairman of the Hospital Board, Mr. J. N. McCarroll, criticising insurance payments to injured players. j Delegates agreed with Mr. McCarroll ■ that the amount available for payment jwas insufficient, but it was pointed out I that the state of the insurance fund was such that no more could be done. At the beginning of the season the .fund showed a credit balance of £lO, but already this had nearly been wiped out by excess payments over receipts. Continued attempts had been made to obtain insurance cover over all teams, but no company would accept any policy other than for an individual player. Union members made it clear that they would welcome any suggestion which would supply better cover against accident. Even the payment of 1/- insurance per match was a. hardship to many players under existing circumstances.

General. The primary schools were granted the use of Rugby Park on the morning of September 16, when the finals of the rural competitions will be played. A letter of appreciation for his valued services will be sent to Dr. H. Armstrong, honorary surgeon to the Hikurangi Club. The ball, donated by Mr. H. Geissler, was awarded to the Hikurangi team as the scorers of most points in the senior competition. The match, Old Boys v. Whakapara, which was to have been played last Saturday, will take place at the end of the round if necessary. It was decided to plant approximately 100 trees round Rugby Park. Mr. C. R.
