Among the guests at the Commercial Hotel are Messrs Babiugton, Davie, O’Dowd, Small, P.uekley, Muster, Preston, Martin, Beehan, Frame, Penman, Smytlie (Auckland),' Also guests at the hotel are Mr Justice Frazer, Mr J. Gilmore (secretary) and Messrs Jordan, Aiekin, Aldcrton. and..Sawers, of the Transport Appeal Board. A tribute was paid by Anglicans to Rev. J. G. Fussell, vicar of Waimate North and a former vicar at Dargaville, on the occasion of a visit to the latter parish on Sunday. The church was packed for all services. Speaking afterwards, Mr Fussell said he did not remember ever having officiated, at such a. largely-attended Holy Communion service. The retirement of Sir George Fowlds from the Auckland University College Council took place at the annual meeting of the council yesterday, when glowing tributes were paid to his work for education in Now Zealand generally, and for Auckland University College- in particular. The post of president, which he has vacated, was filled by the election yesterday of Mr Kenneth" Mackenzie, formerly vice-president.
Before business commenced at the annual meeting of the Maungatapere Dairy Company yesterday, the chairman, Mr L. Reynolds, referred to the death during the year of Mr G. B. Stonham, who was secretary of the company for 12 years. Tn paying a tribute to the memory of Mr Stonham, Mr Reynolds said that he had been a painstaking, careful, methodical, and, in short, very competent officer. Mr Stonham could not have guarded and watched more carefully the finances of the company had ho boon dealing with his own. All present at the meeting, standing in silence, passed a. vote of condolence with the relatives of Mr Stonham.
