PROPOSED RELIEF MEETING. XO PERMIT AVAILABLE. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Unless a totalisator permit is found to he available on account of a racing or trotting club not having used it, a special race meeting in aid of the business men’s relief distress fund cannot be held in Christchurch this year. This was made clear in a letter which the Minister of Internal Affairs has written to the chairman of committee.

WINTER CUP. GAY CREST SCRATCHED. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Gay Crest was scratched for the Winter Cup at 11.50 a.m. yesterday. LEADING ENGLISH RIDER. England’s leading jockey, Gordon Richards, continues to take nil before him, and with six more wins during tl.t Epsom meeting in June he lifted his total of wins for the season to 74, which was 48 points in front of the next on the list, S. Donoghne. Richards, who has been riding for twelve seasons, has now nearly 1,250 wins to his credit, against the 1,048 of Donoghue over a period of 25 years. Fred Archer’s total was 2,740..

It has not been unusual for Richards to ride three winners in one day this season, though, of course, he missed altogether on some days. On being congratulated on reaching his 50 wins, Richards said: “It was at York two or three years ago that I reached my hundred for the season, and now at the York Spring Meeting I .have/had the good fortune to get my half-century, which I have never done so early before. I hope now to score the 200 I fell short of last year,'’ Richards’ figures for the years he headed the winning jockeys’ list are as follows: 1925, 118; 1927, 164; 1028, 148; 1929, 135; 1931, 145, and 1932, 190. *
