MANGAPAI

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Manga' pai Women’s Institute, Avas held in the Public Hall on Thursday, last, there being a,large attendance of members. Mrs Harrison presided and welcomed visitors from Tauraroa and Poroti. .The roll call, “Cure for a fit of the blues,” caused a great.deal of amusement. A quantity of correspondence was then dealt with and it was decided to write for a catalogue of articles made by inmates of the Blind Institute. Two monologues given'by Mrs Parjnell Avere greatly appreciated by all. A “song representation” competition was held,, the person. guessing the most songs correctly being the Avinner. Mrs Alec Thomson and Mrs Bain FinJayson tied for first.

An article made from sugar bags Avas the handwork competition. The prize (decided by vote) went to Miss Gavcia Finlayson, for a cushion cover elaborately embroidered. Mrs A. McKenzie was second, displaying a most serviceable “door mat.” Members are look ing forward to a demonstration from Mrs McKenzie of the making of the mat. A bring-and-buy stall Avas Avell patronised. Mesdames Cotton and King were hostesses for the afternoon. The meeting closed Avith the singing of the institute song and National Anthem, “Welcome” Party. A happy little party Was hold last week to Avelcome Mr and Mrs Wilde to the district. Mr' Wilde, Avho is Home Missiqner of Presbyterian Church has been here for seA r oral months, but just recently brought his bride home. Tin cans, cow bells, ete., wore well- in evidence early the evening, after which, at the invitation of Mrs Hill, all present adjourned to the latter’s home. Table tennis, croquet, cards, etc., Avere the order of the e\ r ening, everyone having a very jolly time. After supper,- Mrs Hill, in a neat speech, Avelcomed Mrs Wilde to the district and all present joined in singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Songs, violin items by Miss Firman and monologues by Mrs Parnell’followed, -community. singing bringing the eA r ening to a close. Mr Wilde, in happy vein, thanked Mrs Hill and the rest of the company for the warm Avelcome extended to them.
