A smoke concert was held in the Waiotira Hall on Friday night to mark the completion of the WaiotiraArarna road and the main WaiotiraToka Toka-Dargaville road. ‘ Mr A. Stephens presided, and there were ■ about a 0 present. The toast of "the Public Works Dei partment” was proposed by Mr A. Stephens, Five years ago, said Mr Stephens, the minister of Public Works, accompanied by Mr Me Funis and others, met at the Mangonui bridge to consider the metalling of the Dargaville-Toka. Toka road, and from that time on negotiations had been in train ta get the road metalled. Now it had been completed. This was due to the perseverance of one and all, as the weather ’ conditions had greatly handicapped the work. An official of the Public Works Department, in reply, said that this was almost a nnicpie occasion. It was seldom that the settlers called officials together and thanked them for the work they were doing in regard to roads, etc. He assured the gathering that everybody had done Ills utmost to complete this job, and he thanked the men for their hearty co-operation. Mr W. .Tones, Public Works, Waiotira, endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. The toast of "the Lorry Drivers” was proposed- by Air M. Mason, who said that no small amount of credit was due to the drivers for carrrying on under such wet conditions. Last night another meeting was held to endeavour to select a committee for the ensuing li' months, but the same fate awarded this meeting, only live attending. However this .meeting appointed Mrs Hodgson as librarian for three months, she to have full charge of the library. The balance-sheet showed an even balance. Fverything was paid up to the end of May, with no liabilities. There were about (100 books in the library.

One and all wish Air Aloore a speedy recovery to his usual good health.
