BODY-LINE CONTBOVEBRY,
ONUS ON UMPIBES,
NEW BULE RESENTED.
(Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
Strong criticism was expressed at a meeting of the New South Wales Umpires’ Association, when the Board of Control’s new rule concerning body-line bowling was discussed. Mr Armstrong secretary of the association, said: “Wo gather that the board seeks to put on umpires the onus of reading the bowler’s mind. This is a most ridiculous imposition. No umpire should have the responsibility of calling a no-ball because he could only imagine that the bowler was bowling at the body.” Other speakers said that if tho new '■ule were adopted the umpires must rule were adopted the umpires must abide by It.
Mr Solomon expressed the opinion that body-line bowling as seen last season was bowling deliberately at the man.
It was decided to defer further discussion until the matter came officially before the Umpires Association.
