NON-STOP LONG DISTANCE
ENGLAND TO SOUTH AFRICA.

Squadron-Leader Gayford and FlightLieutenant Nicholotte, who won for Britain the world’s non-stop, long-dis-tance record by the 0309 miles’ flight from Cranwell to Walfisch Bay, South Africa, reached England today. They had returned in easy stages.
On landing at Farnborough, Hampshire, the airmen were greeted by the Marquis of Londonderry, Secretary for Air, and many officials find friends.
The fliers said they knew before they started they could not reach Cape Town. They expected to come down ■near Walfisch Bay. They then had 14 gallons of petrol, whereas 130 gallons would have ' been required to reach the Cape. Neither man slept during the o 7 hours’ flight.
