HIGH SCHOOL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. TEACHERS-■ RESIGNING. MESSAGE TQJITSS WILLIAMS. The Whangarei High School Board of Governors, with Air H. C. Rishworth presiding, met last evening. A letter was received from the Auckland Education Board stating that Dr. Campbell and Mr H. W. Crawford had been reappointed the board's representatives on the High School Board.

The New Zealand committee which is conducting education research in New Zealand under the Carnegie Corporation, New York, wrote pointing our that, the corporation needed evidence that education authorities throughout the country were prepared to give the scheme their whole-hearted support, and offered facilities for research. The board instructed the secretary to reply that it was giving its support to the project, which it hoped, would be successful. The Public Trustee advised that under the Conversion Act, the Kerr Scholarship had been reduced by about a fifth.

The board accepted the resignations of Miss E. Jackson and Air K. Pricker, who are leaving the school at the end of the term. A motion of regret at the departure of Air Friek ,i r, and thanking him for hus work at the school, and also at the hostel, was earned. The board also extended good wishes to Aliss Jackson.

Air Rishworth reported on the deputation to the '.Minister of Education, Hon. R. Alaflters, and said that he had given a .sympathetic hearing to the matters under discussion.

It was resolved to send a message to Miss M. Williams,, formerly a. pupil, of tire school, who was .a member of the party of trampers who were lost in the Tararua. Ranges, for 15 days, congratulating her on her safe return and expressing appreciation of her wit, endurance and knowledge of dietetics. The principal, Mr A. I*. Ryder, reported : "The Whangarei evening classes reopened on the 13 th 'March with a roll number that increased to .'ll) pupils by April lb, compared with 33 at the corresponding period last .year. “Publicity to the classes tvas given by advertisement and by typed prospectus delivered direct to ex-day school pupils and to employers in Whangarej. . . .. “A newly-formed dressmaking class is well supported, and in most cases entrants are taking three or more of the commercial subjeebs offered.
