A FORGOTTEN COMRADE.

To the Editor.

Sir.—Just previous to falling-in for the Anzae Day parade, I was thinking of old comrades and days thaf have gone by, when it dawned on me that, with all our memorials and cenotaphs, we seem to have overlooked one dear old comrade, one who was indispensable, one who rarely lot us down, one who was nbt, like, numbers of us, carried away by love of adventure. He was a conscript, but nobly he carried out his duty when taken to the ifront. I think the most pathetic sight one could witness was -to see him, when badly wounded, trying to struggle after the column —loyal unto death. He was only our dumb friend, the horse. How, sir, in the ‘‘Advocate” I saw a list of. 'wreaths placed on the memorial, but no mention wms made of that placed by the S.P.C.A. I think our thanks are due to two humane ladies, Mesdames Patterson and Ventry-Smith, who did not forget the animals. I feel sure every “Digger” will agree with me that a few monuments to the horses and mules who nobly “did their bit” are justified. Eor they had no thanks no hope of ever coming home again to be feted and made heroes of. —I am, etc., T. BARENESS.
