MINTING OF SILVER

SUGGESTIONS TO GOVERNMENT,

(Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day,

Dealing with the question of silver coinage, Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., stated yesterday that he had always supported the idea that New Zealand should mint her own silver coinage. He trusted the Government would not have the work done overseas when it could be performed within the country.

It would be nothing short of iuicpiitons to let the contracts outside the Dominion. In any case, the question should be one for open tender, and in the event of a New Zealand arm not being successful, the reaeons should be made public. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce has decided to support the New Zealand Manufacturers* Association in pressing the -Government to give New Zealand firms an opportunity of tendering.
