A protest against what was termed tlio glaring discrepancy of the status of tuition between Standard 4 of the primary schools and that of the intermediate school in the Whangarei district, was received hy the Auckland Education Board this morning - from a meeting of householders of the Horn Horn district.

“The intermediate schools professedly represent an advanced stage of education, but, as actually obtaining- at present, the “process is positively retrograde,” read the protest. It was pointed out that at the Whangarei intermediate school, Form 1., which corresponded, to Standard ■! of the primary schools, was instructed by teachers whose grading ranged up to .100 marks lower than that of teachers of Standard 4 in the primary schools. •Mr C. R. Munro said he thought the explanation was that there were living in Whangarei some highly skilled teachers who did not want to leave the district, and had attached themselves to the primary schools. “And they are going to stay there until they retire on superannuation, ” ho added.
