AMBULANCE INSURANCE

PROTECTION OF PATIENTS. WELLINGTON PKECA I'TION. u j er I'ress Association, —couyriglitj ■ WELLINGTON, This Day. In order to protect patients, the Wellington Free Ambulance Board decided yesterday to take out an insuranc' policy of Old for cadi of its seven vehicles to cover patients being carried in them in any accident which might arise. Under the third-party risk, nonpaying passengers are not protected, and the hoard therefore decided to take out a special policy. The chairman, Mr C. J. B. Norwood, said that the liability was so remote that it was difficult to imagine a case in which a claim would be brought against the board, in the first place, it was necessary for the claimant -o prove negligence against the boards servants, and in the second place it would be necessary to lind an individual who would feel disposed to bring a case against the free ambulance. It would be just as well to have an insmanee cover until a reserve fund of some kind had been built up. Mr Norwood also announced that it had been decided to insure the ambulance building against fire for £SOOO. All precautions had been taken to se- 1 1 lint the slrncluro was fire and earth(piake proof, and it was not considered advisable to go to the expense of insuring against earthquakes.
